The Investment Systems team at Parametric:
We are building financial software that solves for some of the world's most complex financial opportunities. This includes building solutions to provide customized direct index exposure while making tax sensitive asset selection to improve overall after-tax portfolio returns.
We design and build scalable multi-asset portfolio management solutions, secure platforms for creating financial applications and low-code workflows, and a core data platform that delivers trusted financial data.
ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for providing both technical and people leadership, project delivery, process development, training and support. The role partners across the Equity Investments and Client Activities team, Core Services, and the externally facing Digital Team to design and develop technology solutions that support Direct Indexing business priorities and improve business processes. The role spans multiple services within the team, building out underlying components that provide critical services to the Equity Portfolio Management Platform. These services help streamline rule-based portfolio analytics, order generation and straight through processing enabling exception driven portfolio management.
This position will report into the Investments & Innovation Platform team and work closely with team leads across Technology teams, Business Analysis as well as Business Partners. In this role, you will lead developers and projects and provide mentoring opportunities to the development team.
A critical objective for this role is to support the architecture and deliver scalable enterprise solutions, leveraging AWS cloud native technologies, designing and implementing micro-services and a relentless focus on performance and resilience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop proprietary solutions for the Equity Direct Indexing portfolio management teams
- Provide technical leadership by directly managing a team of engineers, guiding and mentoring them to achieve their highest potential while collectively advancing the goals and projects of the engineering team.
- Drive vision and strategy for the team while exemplifying strong leadership skills, including communication, consensus building, elevated standards, ownership, accountability, and project management.
- Design, develop, and maintain services and API to support various business needs
- Leverage scalable and distributed computing principles to build the next generation of services
- Ensures that software solutions remain integrated, efficient, and appropriate for a highly regulated industry.
- Create unit/integration/functional/performance tests
- Conduct code reviews of other developers
- Share experience, knowledge, and ideas to the team to improve processes and productivity
- Maintain regular collaboration with teams and stakeholders in the US West Coast time zone, including flexibility to support overlapping working hours when needed.

Primary Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related area of study
- 12+ years of hands-on development experience managing all aspects of technical projects with a proven track record of delivering well architected and well written software solutions.
- 3+ years of managing software development teams and providing direct guidance, mentorship, project leadership, and team development while fostering an engaging, collaborative environment and building strong cross-team relationships
- Strong Java and Spring Boot experience
- Experience with microservices and distributed systems
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
Strong aptitude for highly efficient data structures and algorithms - Cloud native development experience a plus: AWS is preferred
- Exposure to event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka)
- Working knowledge of SQL , RDBMS ,NoSQL database engines such as Redis & DynamoDB
- Experience using enterprise AI development tools, including GitHub Copilot Enterprise and GitHub Spec Kit, to enable AI-powered Specification-Driven Development.
- Proven track record of becoming a subject matter expert in areas related to current assignments.
- Demonstrated initiative, ownership, and a results-oriented approach to solving complex business and technology challenges.
- Demonstrated sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes in a collaborative environment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders.
- Familiarity with AI and related technologies, with the ability to apply them in a business or technical context
- Experience with React or modern front-end frameworks
- Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL
- Asset management experience
- Experience governing enterprise AI agents through secure access, auditability, human oversight, and emerging standards.
