As (Senior) Strategist you will join the Economics & Strategic Asset Allocation (ESAA) team, part of the Fiduciary department within APG Asset Management. Your primary function will be to help build APG’s long term economic assumptions and medium term views used in strategic portfolio advice including, and most importantly, the asset allocation studies.
As (Senior) Strategist you will join the Economics & Strategic Asset Allocation (ESAA) team, part of the Fiduciary department within APG Asset Management. Your primary function will be to help build APG’s long term economic assumptions and medium term views used in strategic portfolio advice including, and most importantly, the asset allocation studies. You develop top-down expectations on the economy in general and returns across a wide spectrum of asset classes. Your insights are used in communications with our clients or as input for supporting various other strategic discussions.
The ESAA team formulates an expectation for economic and financial developments. It also serves as a sparring partner on macro-economic issues within and outside the firm. With strategists in Amsterdam, Hong Kong and regular contact with strategists in APG’s New York office, the team is dedicated to providing truly global analysis. From the daily deluge of data and events, you are able to filter those elements that are crucial for long-term investors and translate them into concrete insights that can be used to shape their (investment) policy. This involves:
- Using and contributing to the development of economic models for quantitative analysis
- Developing economic views and to communicate and share these internally
- Delivering the views to clients and the Fiduciary department in writing and presentation
The ESAA team is part of Strategic Portfolio Advice (SPA) with the Fiduciary department. SPA is responsible for the Strategic Asset Allocation advice to pension fund clients. This includes for example the strategic investment plans, ALM studies but also a range of other services such as an overview and segmentation of investment categories, but also studies on monetary policy and specific market developments. Within SPA, the you will work closely with the teams of ALM, Research and your other colleagues within ESAA focused on Strategic Portfolio Construction.
You will be based in Amsterdam at our office at the Zuidas.
The (Senior) Investment Strategist we are looking for is numerate, articulate and of an inquisitive mindset. You have experience in building relations and engaging with colleagues across the breadth of the organisation and clients. You show a strong team spirit combined with an ability to work independently on a wide range of projects simultaneously.
We ask for:
- At least 5 years of practical experience in economic analysis, modelling or portfolio management
- A deep understanding of macroeconomics and financial markets and a good intuition for the interactions between the two
- Ability to distill the essence of economic arguments into clearly written text
- Completely at ease with data- and statistical software (including, but not limited to, Bloomberg, Excel and R)
- Capacity to develop your role to innovate, to adapt to rapidly evolving needs and to implement change
- Perfect fluency in Dutch and a good command of English is essential
