The team and role
The UK Schemes and MGA portfolio team is a key part of the Hiscox UK business, providing the analytics, portfolio insight and commercial challenge needed to support profitable growth across our Schemes and MGA business. The team sits within the wider Pricing and Portfolio function, whose objective is to provide pricing and underwriting services across the UK retail business, support market-leading risk selection and improve portfolio performance. It works closely with Schemes underwriting, Distribution, Operations, Pricing, Portfolio Underwriting, Data, Reserving and Finance.
This role sits at the centre of Schemes and MGA portfolio management, reporting directly to the Head of Pricing and Portfolio. You will be someone who enjoys combining detailed analytics with strong stakeholder relationships, working with the Schemes and MGA leadership team, senior underwriters and wider business leaders to understand priorities, challenge performance and turn data into practical action. You will be comfortable presenting technical analysis clearly and making evidence-based recommendations that shape portfolio decisions.
As Schemes and MGA Portfolio Lead Analyst, you will lead the development and delivery of analytics, modelling and governance for both new opportunities and the existing portfolio. You will shape and embed the Schemes and MGA performance and portfolio management approach, support sustainable profitable growth, and build analytical capability within the team. The role retains a distinct focus on delegated authority business, including scheme-level performance, large MGA relationships, new deal assessment, data quality and external partner insight.
What you'll be doing
- Manage and develop a team of 3-4 Schemes and MGA analysts. Setting clear priorities aligned to business objectives and creating an environment of high-quality execution. Coaching analysts in technical skills, commercial acumen, and stakeholder management, sharing your own experience and expertise to support their development
- Taking the lead role in engagement with the wider Schemes and MGA leadership team, senior underwriters and distribution stakeholders as their connection into the wider Pricing and Portfolio function. You will understand their priorities, manage competing demands and build trusted relationships that enable constructive challenge and influence.
- Being the end-to-end analytical lead for complex Schemes and MGA portfolio decisions that support delivery of budgeted growth and profitability targets. This includes framing the question, assessing financial and customer impacts, developing recommendations, preparing governance materials and supporting actions through to implementation and review.
- Designing and embedding a regular operating rhythm for Schemes and MGA performance management, bringing together clear reporting, focused analysis, decision-making and action tracking for individual arrangements and the overall portfolio.
- Working with senior stakeholders to identify changing trends and assess premium, exposure, profitability, claims, retention, commission, customer and distribution performance, translating the findings into clear actions to improve portfolio outcomes.
- Leading the analytical assessment of new Scheme and MGA opportunities, including the quality and completeness of available data, expected portfolio performance, key assumptions, commercial trade-offs and material risks.
- Providing independent review and recommendations to senior underwriting management on large or strategically important existing Schemes and MGAs, ensuring decisions are supported by robust evidence and appropriate challenge.
- Developing and executing portfolio strategies for the Schemes and MGA book, proactively identifying where intervention, remediation, growth, repricing, renegotiation or exit should be considered to support sustainable performance.
- Creating and improving analytical frameworks, models, dashboards and visualisation tools that give stakeholders a consistent view of portfolio health and support active performance management.
- Working with underwriting, pricing and reserving colleagues to bring together relevant methodologies and perspectives, while ensuring the analysis reflects the specific structure, data and commercial dynamics of delegated authority business.
- Working with Hiscox UK data teams and business stakeholders to define data standards, improve the quality and availability of internal and external data, and identify additional datasets that could strengthen Scheme and MGA assessment and monitoring.
- Applying knowledge of the insurance market, delegated authority arrangements and the regulatory environment to portfolio recommendations, ensuring customers are treated fairly and consistently in line with Hiscox values.
- Taking accountability for the quality of your recommendations, the assumptions used and the ongoing performance of analytical models and frameworks developed for the Schemes and MGA portfolio.
- Managing and developing the Schemes and MGA analyst team. Coaching analysts in technical capability, commercial judgement and stakeholder management, sharing your experience and supporting their development through purposeful feedback and stretching work.
