One of Nik Storonsky's elite graduates at Revolut is hiring for new firm

Nik Storonsky's 'founders associates' have had a mixed reception among Revolut staff, but some of them seem more popular than others. Edoardo Castelli joined the app-based bank as a founder's associate in 2018 as a graduate, and he has now left to found his own startup and brought some senior Revolut people with him.

Castelli has founded BARQ Tech, a hardware startup building energy-efficient AI chips for vision processing, based in Dubai. He spent six years at Revolut in its London HQ; after two years as a founder's associate, he was promoted to director of process engineering. Two years after that, he became an operating partner. Castelli has been building BARQ since December and says he's looking to grow the team.

Castelli's goodbye post on social media showed that founder's associates are given hiring responsibilities very early. The "strongest warriors" he hired at Revolut include Woody Malouf, general manager (GM) for global financial crime, Kheng Zhun Yeoh, GM for global customer support and operations, Dimitris Konstantilieris, a product owner in crypto, and Joseph Baugh, head of operations for Revolut People. Each of Castelli's hires have been at Revolut at least four years.

Multiple other Revolut alums have left to found AI startups. Senior engineer Anton Shumskih co-founded Neo, an agentic AI startup for customer service. Dimitrios Ilias, another senior engineer, co-founded Intryc, an AI quality assurance firm.
